Q: Do I have to be a member to register for an event?
A: Currently you do have to be a member to register and play events on the GSGT. We are looking into offering a Non-Member event fee in the near future.

Q:  How do I register for events:

A-1:  If you are a NEW MEMBER and you are registering online for the first time:

  1. When you have completed Membership Registration, end your session.
  2. Reopen the GSGT website and click on the ”Log In” tab on the right.
  3. After you have logged into the website, you will be able to register for any open event.
  4. Upon completion of the event registration, your name will appear on in the list on the front page.

A-2: If you previously registered as a Member and know your Member Id and password, Proceed as follows:

  1. Open the GSGT website.
  2. Click on the “Log In” tab.
  3. Select Registration, select the event you wish to register for and fill in the information.
  4. Upon completion of the event registration, your name will appear on in the list on the front page.

Q: What are the benefits of being a member on the GSGT?
A: Currently the benefit is that it gives you the rights to register and play in the GSGT scheduled events.  Only Members are allowed to play in the  Tour Championship.  Members will also pay lower event fees than non-members.

Q: What is the tour policy on the new USGA Groove Rule for Competition?
A: The GSGT will adopt the new “Conforming Grooves” rule for wedges only on May 31, 2011. This means that all players competing in events on June 1, 2011 and after will be required to have wedges the conform to the new USGA rules.  If you have questions as to whether your wedges conform, please visit the USGA website where you can check to see if your equipment conforms.

Q: What is the penalty for players that plays with non-conforming equipment?
A: There is no penalty prior to June 1, 2011.  Any player that is reported to be playing with “Nonconforming” wedges after June 1, 2011 will be subject to disqualification of the current event.  That player must provide proof of conforming wedges in his next event.

Q: Are event walking or riding?
A:  Either. Players are allowed to walk or ride in a cart on the GSGT.

Q: Am I allowed to have a caddy?
A: Yes, but only if one or both of you walk.  There is a limit of  two carts per group.

Q:  If I am in question of a ruling or a rules violation during an event, what should I do?
A-1: If you are in question about a ruling while on the course, first ask your playing partners if they know the rule.  If a ruling can not be determined within the group, contact the rules official who is listed on the rules sheet.  It is permissible to use a cell phone during play for this purpose.

A-2: If you realize or become aware that you have or may have violated a rule, notify your playing partners immediately.  Describe what you believe may be a violation of the rules so the group can determine if a rule has been breached and what the penalty is for the breach. If a ruling can not be determined within the group, contact the rules official who is listed on the rules sheet.  It is permissible to use a cell phone during play for this purpose.

Q:  What should I do if I see one of my playing partners in violation of a rule?
A:  All players are responsible for protecting the integrity of the field. If the player does not acknowledge that he has in fact violated a ruling or the player is not aware that he has violated a rule, the player that witnessed the violation is responsible for bringing the violation to the players attention.  It is the responsibility of the group to determine if a violation has in fact occurred.  If a ruling can not be determined within the group, contact the rules official who is listed on the rules sheet.  It is permissible to use a cell phone during play for this purpose.

Q:  Am I allowed to wear shorts during a competition?
A: Yes, but no jean or denim shorts.

Q: Does the GSGT play Local Rules as provided by the course?
A: Sometimes; The GSGT Tournament officials list all exceptions to the USGA rules on the rules sheet that players receive before each round. Typically, the tour DOES NOT follow local rules because they are not always consistent with the USGA/PGA for tournament golf.  Local rules, like par 3 drop zones and “all wooded area are deemed as lateral hazards” are not used for tournament play. The GSGT tournament officials reserve the right to incorporate a local rule if necessary. In that case, the local rule will be clearly stated on the rules sheet.
